Product - Market Fit
Helping deep tech businesses go to market
Everyone knows that launching a startup is risky, with approximately 9 out of 10 sadly destined to fail. Less well-known is that the most common reasons those startups fail relate to ‘product market fit’, or the lack thereof.
‘Product market fit’ is a phrase that has quite recently become common jargon within the world of technology startups.
DeepTech Commercialisation benefits from experience in driving products and business to reach product market fit going back to the late 1990s.
At that time, the terminology did not even exist. Now that the phrase is better recognised, with more written about its importance. It is much easier for us to communicate the value we provide and our applicability to almost every startup journey, particularly those involved with deep tech.
If you have already come across this concept then you will appreciate how critical it is to invest in optimising for this outcome. If you have not heard this phrase before and have started on a deep tech journey, then please make sure you spend time understanding the concepts. Some good product market fit information can be found here.
Either way, very few people can boast 25+ years of experience in successfully driving deep technology businesses to product market fit. DeepTech Commercialisation can and we are here to support you. We will work closely with you to set out and implement a practical plan of action together, then walk with you, hand in hand, to guide your journey.
One other important thing we have observed is that while there are now more resources and guides for product market fit, we rarely see any that provide clear applicability to deep tech or complex technology solutions. They most commonly reference SAAS platform examples, most of which are very well-funded compared to the real situation we see here in the UK, Europe or non-US regions. Conversely, at DeepTech Commercialisation, we spend most of our time considering product market fit processes for deep tech-related startups, the majority of which are operating on very meagre budgets. With this experience, we have developed some frameworks and models that we use to help your particular needs in the most efficient way.
“The number one problem I’ve seen for startups, is they don’t actually have product market fit, when they think they do.”
– Alex Schultz

“Identifying a compelling value hypothesis is what I call finding product/market fit.
A value hypothesis identifies the features you need to build, the audience that’s likely to care, and the business model required to entice a customer to buy your product.
Companies often go through many iterations before they find product/market fit, if they ever do.”
— Andy Rachleff
